| About a year ago or so, I needed to know what start up oil pressure was because I had an annoying lifted tick. On the suggestion of Kyle @ @ IPP, I purchased from him and had installed a Greddy Oil Pressure gauge to monitor the status of my SGP built motor. At the time I was initially reluctanct because I already had a slew of gauges in my car and didn't really want anymore. In hindsight, that gauge has probably helped me to save my motor at least on 2-3 occassions. 1) Until about 3months ago, I had this annoying oil leak off of a turbo line, I noticed that when I ran lower than desireable on oil ,the oil pressure gauge ( more sensitive than the OEM) would flutter on cold start up until the oil warmed up. 2) Last year, I had Ash of Ash Spec replace the crank bearings in my Z. When started we noticed an immediate 15 - 25 psi improvement in cold started PSI. Currently my cold startup is around or slightly above 7bar ~ 105 PSI. 3) Recently, I also noticed that when it got close to the recommended time period to change the oil, the oil pressure gauge would not maintain the oil pressure levels that I was accustomed to seeing. Interesting enough, I'd check the oil level and all was fine, then I would drive the car, upon pushing the pedal, I could see the oil pressure drop almost 1 bar ( 15psi ) from the point that it was and then watch the pressure build right back up. This initially ALARMED me. I changed the oil and all was back to normal. I was surprised at how sensitive these gauges are as compared to the OEM. I would highly recommend getting an aftermarker oil pressure guage (inaddition to fuel pressure, EGT's / wideband O2's). It really helps in monitoring what is going on internally with your motor.Once you have enough experience with what your oil pressure should be and other tale tale signs (ie: exhaust note, RPM idle speed, fuel pressure, boost pressure, EGT's for example), you will have a pretty good idea about the health of your car. If you have a Conzult and use the FAQ / search options here on TT.net, you can do all the diagnosis work that any Nissan dealership can do. For what it's worth - figured I'd share.
